Largo Florida in Pinellas County

largo.jpgLargo is the third largest city in Pinellas County, and it’s growth continues to be tremendous. Centrally located in the middle of the county, Largo currently has over 71,000 people living there full-time. It was incorporated in 1905, and officially became a city (rather than a town) in 1974. An agricultural community until the 1960s, Largo started attracting young families as permanent residents and became a suburban bedroom community of St. Petersburg and Clearwater by the 1970s. Today, Largo is known for its commitment to conservation and has been a National Arbor Day Foundation Tree City for the past 17 years. It’s also a large shopping hub, with a multitude of service and retail jobs available at any given moment.

In addition to shopping, there’s a lot to see and do in sunny Largo. Golf is a popular pastime in the community, with plenty of courses to keep any enthusiast busy. The Gulf Coast Museum of Art and Florida Botanical Gardens are there for people who enjoy cultural activities and appreciate the natural beauty of central Florida. Plus, the Largo Cultural Center offers a constant parade of nationally and internationally known acts such as Fleetwood Mac and Juice Newton. If you’re interested in the history of the area, the Pinellas County Heritage Village is in town, and is waiting to take you back in time to an era of large, stately farm homes, abundant agriculture, and genteel Southern society.

Many people visit Pinellas County each year to see St. Petersburg or to visit the beaches. However, you’re missing out if you don’t come to Largo. There’s no doubt about it….Largo is the place to be when you’re looking for something a little off the beaten path in Pinellas County.
